Transmission Slip and Lag V70-XC70 2002

My transmission in my 2002 XC70 with under 80,000 miles has a delay when shifting from reverse to drive. The result is a lurch into gear. Also, when decellerating to a partial stop and then accelerating transmission seems to be floating in to neutral and then slams into gear again. Dealer gave a blanket statement of the valve body needing replacement. Or the whole transmission. Totally useless and no doubt inaccurate. Please tell me someone out there knows EXACTLY what this problem is. Dealer also said that it is not a software issue. Are they totally full of bull?

Signed,

an extremely frustrated Volvo lover who thinks that this problem and the lack of accurate assessment by a Volvo dealer is unacceptable. Please help!
