driver's side axle removal - 2000 V70XC V70-XC70 2000

I've searched and found nothing dealing with this repair on my car. I'm hoping someone who knows can help me.

I am replacing the drivers side axle on my 2000 V70XC. I have the axle completely out except for the large "plastic" housing which was covered with the inner axle boot (the axle boot ripped and I removed the rest of the axle other than the "plastic" part that the bearings in the CV joint slide back and forth in). This part connects to the tranny and I do not see exactly how it is attached (I wish the other axle was here, I bet it is obvious looking at a new axle).

Anyway, can anyone tell me how the driver's side axle is attached to the tranny? It looks like a press fit, but I want to be sure before I begin prying on it. Also, what tool is best for pulling the part off of the tranny? A gear puller? Your help will be most appreciated!
