Dash lighting and backlighting not working S40-V40 1997

Hi All,
The headlight switch failed recently and has been replaced. However the dash lights failed at the same time but no longer work even though the headlights are fine. Klaus suggested i check the dimmer switch but dash lights remain off no matter its position. Fuses all seem okay. Any ideas?
