S80 question S80 2002

The time has come to retire my 1993 960 (235K miles) and I am considering a 2002 S80 2.9L with 73K miles.

With the gracious help from the RWD forum members, I was able to stretch 4 years and 80K miles from the 960 after things started going wrong.

I guess I am looking for some reassurances that maintenance schedules have improved with this model and that it is still possible to do repairs/maintenance at home without the need to go to the dealership.

As an example, my 93 960 had a timing belt change interval of 30K miles...

Any help would be greeatly appreciated, I am trying to narrow the field between an S80, a BMW 528i and a Nissan Maxima.

Thanks in advance.
