2001 V70 Tailgate open message V70-XC70

Hi all,
I recently upgraded from my old 89 740 GLE, to a 2001 V70 2.4T. Car runs beautifully and is incredibly comfortable. Unfortunately, a couple of small issues are marring an otherwise pleasurable experience.

The main issue is the tailgate / the sensor which indicates if it is open or closed. The tailgate closes, and locks securely, but the "Tailgate open" message is always displayed, and the cargo area light stays on. The problem began as rare, became intermittent, and is now constant over the course of 3-4 months.

From some of my reading on the web, the open/close signal comes from some type of switch, located in the door latch assembly. I've tried manually engaging the latch with my finger, and the cargo light still flashes or stays on, which I believe is indicative of the switch being faulty.

If anyone could share their repair experience, or perhaps reccomend a manual which illustrates the latch assembly, I would be most grateful.

Thank you,
Justin Rogers
