850 interior light rocker switch replacement or hardwire 850

The rocker part of 3-position interior light switch in my son's 850 broke. This is the switch under rear-view mirror that sets interior lights to always on, always off, or on when door opens. I can't find a new one without buying the whole switch cluster - not worth it ($65 I think it was).

It would be fine if I could get it permanently set to lights-on-when-door-open, which would also make the individual left and right light switches work (without the rocker in place the switch is in never-on mode). My first attempt to fix it was pushing a match stick in the switch to hold the appropriate contacts in place. Not elegant, but easy to do and it worked surprisingly well for a few months until the match fell out.

Moving on from this super-simple fix I think I'd like to rewire the switch to achieve the same purpose. Anyone know how to do that, or have another fix?

Thanks,

Terry
