The dreaded flashing arrow. I had it when I first bought the car pre-owned. I did some research because of the no reverse lights. Found out it was the PNP Switch. I changed that in June of 2004. Now recently, it has came back to HAUNT me once again. Although this time the problem is very very wierd. The last time the arrow was flashing, it usually went away after the car has been started for a while and moving. This time although, when I start my car, when i'm driving it, and all the time, the flashing arrow stays on all the time. I have purchased the PNP switch from rockauto.com last year, and I was wondering what it can be besides the PNP Switch. Can it be faulty? Can it be that it is misaligned? The reverse lights are still working, but can it be the PNP Switch once again?
Last time I changed the switch, I used the hands-on manual; from Bay 13 on volvospeed.com. I also didn't use a tool to put the switch in. I used someone elses advise and used a marker to put the switch in place. The car has worked flawlessly since then. Just wondering now if it can be that switch again, or it can be something else involved.
Now for the symptoms. #1, the check engine light has been on when I start the car. It goes away after a few minutes. #2, the ABS light comes on when I start the car. It goes away after a while after the car is started also. #3, (I have an automatic) Gears, seem to shift perfectly when the car is started, but then as time passes, it seems like the first couple of gears are in Limp Mode, but then I try and floor the gas, the last gear seems to be working fine, just not the lower gears.
I mean the check engine light can be anything I know (just recently got the AC fixed, and now it's not working again for the second time). But I was wondering if this has anything to do with my ABS Controller being bad, and the Traction Contol inside the module is making the arrow blink, and causing the car to go into Limp Mode.
If anyone can give me some advice, or try and give me some solutions to the problem, it would really help me out since I really don't want to sink that much more money into the car, and I am very mechanically inclined.
1994 Volvo 850, automatic, non-turbo. Thanks and any help would be gladly appreciated.
