I would like to touch up a few spots on my White 1995 850. The small user manual refers me to a plate inside the hood on the left side for the paint codes. There are two very long numbers (which I will not repeat here) and the following (listed one underneath the other in a column): 31, 3950, 189-23, EEXAAMS. I took these numbers to PepBoys but they were unable to match these numbers to anything they had and the catalogs they had to look up the paint codes did not go back as far as 1985 for Volvo (neither did another store). Can anyone help?
Also, the white lower part of the back bumper was "bumped" a bit and the paint is starting to crack. I'd like to touch up the areas where a bit has fallen off. May I use the same paint on the plastic bumper as I use on the metal of the body? And, if not, how do I find out what to use here? It also seems that I should be able to put some coating on the bumper to reduce, if not prevent, the cracks from spreading. Will standard hand wax help here? It almost seems it is cracking because it is dry.
Finally, the black plastic areas on the bumper near the body and the white bumper part appear to have the top layer peeling off in areas again as if it got very dry or baked in the sun. Does anyone have any ideas how to make this look better? either by at least stopping it, removing all the top layer or putting on a new layer?
Any help would be most appreciated! I'm just trying to get this to look better and am in need of any help on detailing the inside and out (any links or tips to clean or polish are needed). The posts on the paint on the black trim that runs from the windowshield to the back wof the car and how to remove it and cover it with paint or detailing tape are interetsing and I think I will try that as well. Thanks.
