Odometer failure-- which gear??

My odometer is failing now and again and I am quite sure it will quit working completely very soon.

I looked at odometergears.com and they sell two different gears for my 1996 Volvo 850TLA. Do I need the one with 12 teeth or 15 teeth? I do not want to remove the dash cover more than once.

Should I replace anything else while I am in there??
