Alternate bulb for DRLs V70-XC70

I notice that in the back of the headlight assembly on my '01 is a hole below where the low beam bulb comes through the housing. Is this possibly a place for a small bulb which can be used as a DRL in lieu of the main headlight bulb? Maybe it is used in Europe? Has anyone performed a conversion or know about the purpose of the hole?
