I am attempting to install fog lights on the 1996 850 GLT and would like a little assist. I found an article on Volvospeed about the installation and have been following that, but something does not add up. According to the article, all 96 850's came prewired for fog lights from the factory. Is that true? The article went on to say that if you purchased the switch, relay, light harness (under the bumper), and a small under dash harness from your local Volvo dealer everything would just plug in. Well not quite.
1. Near the battery is a small black unused two-wire connector that does fit the fog light harness as described in the article. That seemed to be the easy part, but my tester indicates that there is power supplied to this connector at all times with the ignition in the ON position. If I connect the fog lights they would be on continually. What am I missing?
2. When I removed the switch blank to install the switch, I found a four wire yellow connector attached to the switch blank. It even fits the fog light switch. Is this the prewired connector for the fog lights system? If so where does the relay plug in, there are two open slots that appear to fit?
3. The use of the second harness (under the dash) appears to attach the switch to the accessory plug by the relay panel, but there is no mention of where this harness would plug into the "prewired" fog light wiring that goes through the firewall. Also, if the car was pre wired for fog lights, why should you have to use the accessory power supply???
Thank you in advance for any assistance.
Oliver
