I've searched the archives about this one, and there's plenty of info, but I still have one question.

I've always had the "normal" lifter noise for the first few moments after starting. This morning, while moving the car into place for an oil change (oddly enough), I heard a slightly stronger lifter noise, and it didn't go away after about 4 minutes of idling. I went ahead and changed the oil and filter, and then took it for a test drive around the block. Still had the consistent noise. With my ear to the block, it sounds like it's just one lifter (on an intake valve). Here's the question: If an Italian tune-up doesn't help, and an oil flush doesn't do the trick, is it worth getting fixed by a professional, or is it just an annoyance? Is that noise the sound of a lifter dying? What should I do?
