Intermittent delay between hitting 'start' position with key and starter actually engaging. Starter also stays engaged for a second (squealing/grinding) after I've released the key to the 'run' position.
Took switch/cylinder off column and car behaves normally when using a screwdriver to turn the switch (instead of the lock cylinder) and applying pressure to the switch's black plastic cover. My theory is that either the contact plate in the switch (or the leads that are inserted into the switch) are worn.
To replace this switch, do you just pull the leads out of the old switch and slide them into the new switch? Does the new switch come with a new cover to make sure the leads are held far enough into the new switch?
Thanks,
