PNP switch/ SF Bay area mentor? 850

Hi,

According to all that I've read here and on Volvospeed, my 850 needs a new PNP switch. I read the instructions on Volvospeed but I have to say I am very intimidated by the idea of taking apart so many vital pieces. Can anyone tell me what level of difficulty this really is?

I've done oil changes, spark plug replacements, flame trap etc but this may be beyond me. I only have basic tools - a few wrenches etc. But I am out of work right now and can't afford to pay a garage! I do need the car to get to job interviews and the grocery store etc and I am afraid if I leave this much longer it will ruin the transmission (gets stuck in 3rd gear sometimes).

I live in the San Francisco area and if any experienced Do It Yourselfer who lives in the area would be interested, I would really like to drive my car over to your place, lift the hood and have you point out some of the parts from the diagram etc so I feel more confident that I am taking apart the right things. I wouldn't want to take up a lot of your time but I could use some in-person pointers.

Tina
