My 1994 850 with 128,000 started to leak on the side of the gas tank near the top. Apparently there are a couple of plastic plugs there which have cracked and now leak gas under pressure. These plugs aren't used for anything. Maybe they were needed in the manufacturing process for the tank. Anyway,I need a new tank after 10 years of service. Volvo apparently changed the tanks in later models. Maybe they knew of the problem. The dealer claims no recalls or notices on this issue, but have any of you hear of this problem before? I am very upset that of all thing I have to replace a tank. And no I am not going to do this myself and it will cost nearly $800 at my inde (tank and labor). Does Volvo need to know about this before cars start exploding. What about all the Volov safety crap. I guess when big money is involved safety is way down the list, just like every other car maker. Good for advertising only.
