oil changes on the border S60 2002

Any thoughts of an s60 that is driven on the Tex-Mex border? Temps are already in 80s some days, and will be 100+ degrees from May to Sept. Regular dino oil OK w/ 3000 mile interval, ar should I go to synthetic at a 5000 mile interval? Or should I just stick w/ the damn manual?
