Adding/programming new Key Fob Remote 1998

I have a 1998 V70. Recently a person where I work gave me her spare key fob remote from her just-sold 1998 V70. It looks identical to my key fob so I assume it's compatible with my car.

2 questions:

1) I'm assuming the car is programmed to accept the electronic code from the key fob, not the other way around (key fob reprogrammed to match a code for the car). Does anyone know if there's a limit to how many key fobs can be programmed for an individual car? I still have the original two remotes it came with plus this one will make three.

2) What is the procedure to reprogram the car to accept a new key fob?

I spoke to my local dealer, he said reprogramming was done through a combination of turning the ignition key and pushing the buttons on the remote to reprogram it. He wasn't interested in telling me exactly HOW to do it though for $80 he's be happy to do it for me!

Thanks in advance for all the replies!

Cheers,
Daryl
