I'm new to this board and new to volvo. I purchased my first new car, a volvo 2001 S40 last year. Aside from a few little quirks (like the whistling mirror) I love this car. I've recently had a problem with the gear shifter. I can only get out of park by depressing the shiftlock override on the base of the shifter. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what the problem might be related to and if this is something that is covered under warranty. Also, I was wondering if the problem might be related to the fact that I've been driving with a burnt out brake light for about a week or so -- could the car be confused into thinking the brakes are bad because a light was out so it won't let me out of park? I'm obviously no mechanic, so any help is appreciated. I hate going to the dealer without having a clue about what I'm getting into.
Thanks.
