Yesterday my 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo stayed in a high gear (3rd or 4th?) for the morning commute and dutifully displayed the dreaded blinking arrow and check engine light. It took a while (3-4 seconds) for the gear to catch while driving up small inclines. For the evening ride, the car started up without the flashing arrow, however the Check Engine light remained. The transmission was acting normal again. The car was immediately brought to a dealer and the mechanic suggested a transmission replacement! Any suggestions?
