steering angle sensor XC90 2007

I got the ABS / Traction controll light and figured it was the steering angle sensor. I also got some strange shifting when I first drive the car after sitting for a while. I ordered a used Sprayed it with contact cleaner and just fiddled with it a bunch. I put it back in the car and the light is still on, but the shifting problems stopped. Drives totally nbormal.
When the new sensor arrived I installed it and the shifting problems are back.
WTF?

At leastr I know its not the transmission.
