P0101 -- ECM-121B -- Mass air flow sensor -- Flow too low V70-XC70 2007

All,

So the car has been sitting now for about a week and I'm at a loss.

Here's the story.

After finishing all the work on the car:
- replaced head,
- water pump,
- Serpentine belt,
- timing belt, tensioner, and idler pulley,
- new CAM seals,
- new fuel filter,
- new air filter,
- new cabin filter,
- new front control arms,
- new front ball joints,
- removed the driveshaft to rear of car as AWD (angle gear) is not working. Was very careful to not damage O2 sensor.

Started driving the car I believe on May 7th. Car had a full tank of gas when I purchased it in February, the water pump seized in October of 2017, so yes, the gas was old.

On Monday May 7th, started the car, left the driveway, proceeded to enter main street and car lost all power, left off of gas, car recovered and was fine the rest of the day.

Car drove fine without exception on Tuesday and Wednesday. Car acted like Monday on Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning, but other than that time in the morning, the car ran fine.

Saturday evening, took family out to dinner, car ran fine, but the engine very rough on start up.

Sunday, May 13th, car throws Check Engine Light (CEL), but runs fine. I pull the code and its P0101. I got the ECM-121B from an earlier scan, but it was a pending one so I didn't pay any attention to it at the time. Actually scanned it at work of Tuesday of that same week.

Car went in for safety inspection on May 14th here in Maryland and passed with flying colors.

Visited my local PNP on Wednesday, May 16th and picked up two used MAF sensors. Tried 1 at a time, and both appeared bad, though looking back on it now, they were probably fine. Things got so bad with the used ones that I had to unplug the MAF wire when the car was off just so that I could get it home as I knew it would go into limp home mode.

Still thinking I had a bad MAF, I ordered a new one from FCP and received it today. I installed the sensor, cleared the codes and tried starting the car. The car sputtered to life and then immediately died, which is how it acted with the PNP MAFs and is how it is acting now with the original MAF that came with the car.

So I'm at a loss.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated on this one.

Matt
