At my wits end on this one. Just bought a 2005 XC90 and put on about 1,000 trouble-free miles. Yesterday, my 11 year old son opened the sunroof while my wife was driving, and now it won't close. Initially it would make a grinding noise when the switch was activated to close. I tried pulling on the glass while the switch was activated to try and move it a little, without success. Then suddenly it started to close just fine but stopped and now won't do anything.
I would add that when I drove the car Sunday, the sunroof operated just fine and has not given us any trouble the few times we've used it before now.
When the switch is activated down, it will grind (though I would expect it should do nothing). When activated backward it will grind (again, I would expect it would do nothing or reverse to close). When activated up it does nothing. And when activated forward to close it does nothing.
I presume it has something to do with the alarm (and I have seen an intermittent alarm service required message).
But, I really need to get it closed. I can't wait for parts to arrive to get it closed.
Anyone have a solution? I took the switch/dome light cover down but don't see any way to manually turn anything.
I've pulled a number of fuses, disconnected the battery, tried key and remote "tricks" (someone somewhere was probably watching and snickering) -- all to no avail. I just need to get it closed. Then I can focus on parts. Hint: I don't have a garage.
I'm also two hours from the closest Volvo dealer, so running there (and abandoning my job) isn't an easy option.
On the same trip, the check engine light came on while my wife was driving and gave me a too rich and cylinder 1 misfire code. Engine is missing on at least one cylinder now.
So I'm open to there being an electrical gremlin, unless these are completely unrelated though very coincidental incidents.
