Explanation of VINs ALL 1999

I am sorry for the delay, but here is a FULL explanation of Volvo's VINs.

Example: YV1 L S 5 6 4 9 W 2 123456

Position 1-3: Manufacturer Code

YV1

Position 4: Vehicle Series

K = S90/V90 or 960

L = S70/V70 or 850

N = C70

T = S80

Position 5: Body Style and Restraint System

K = 2 door Coupe + Dual Airbags + Pretensioners

S = 4 door + Dual Airbags + Pretensioners

T = 4 door (AWD) + Dual Airbags + Pretensioners

W = 5 door + Dual Airbags + Pretensioners

V = 5 door V70R AWD + Dual Airbags + Pretensioners

Z = 5 door V70XC AWD + Dual Airbags + Pretensioners

Emissions Transmission

Position 6-7: Engine Version (pos. 8)

52= B5234T6 4 (Auto only) V70R AWD

53= B5234T3 4 (Auto & Manual)

53= B5234T3 7 (Auto & Manual)

55= B5254S 4 (Auto & Manual)

55= B5254S 3 (Auto only)

55= B5254S 7 (Auto only)

55= B5254S 8 (Auto only)

56= B5254T 4 (Auto only incl. AWD)

56= B5254T 7 (Auto only)

96= B6304S 0 (Auto only)

Position 8: Emissions

C70, S70, V70 (Engine 52, 53, 55, 56)

8= w/o EGR, w/o air pump, wOBDII, w/elec. control evap., Motronic 4.4

7= same as above but WITH air pump

4= same as above but WITH air pump

3= same as 8

0= same as 7 and 4

S90, V90 (Engine 96)

0= w/o EGR, w.air pump, w/OBDII, w/elec. control evap., Motronic 4.4, w/ RuLo (96)

Position 9: Check Digit

0-9 and X

Position 10: Model Year Code

T= 1996

V= 1997

W= 1998

X= 1999

Y= 2000

Z= 2001

Position 11: Factory Code

1= Torslanda, Sweden

2= Ghent, Belgium

3= Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada

J= Udevalla, Sweden

Position 12-17: Serial Number
