This No-Start condition has happened about three times in past year; the last time was this morning. A couple of taps on the starter solenoid with the plastic handle of a heavy screwdriver fixed the condition and the car started right up. Battery is fully charged; all lights, warning lights and instruments function normally when ignition is switched on; it just wouldn't engage the starter.
After the second no-start occurrence six months ago, I cleaned and tightened all of the ground connections I could find.
Today's incident seems more related to the condition of the solenoid, where a heavy tap freed up whatever stuck electrical contacts are inside.
Can the solenoid be replaced independent of the starter and would that be advised? Starter is functioning normally. Note the relatively high mileage of this car.
