Steering resistance 850 1994

Whenever the steering wheel is turned more than a few degrees either side of straightahead, there is a distinct resistance, felt akin to a camshaft

clearing a lobe. This is actually happening twice each side of straight ahead. It is most notable at speeds below 50 kph (30 mph).

The power steering was flushed & replenished with Mobil 1 ATF, however,

while the power steering system was drained , engine off and the car on jackstands it was still noticable. What is there in the in the steering

linkage that could produce this sensation? Tie-rods ? Steering rack ?

Its got me stumped..
