Dear All,
I replaced a leaky water pump and that went surprisingly well. Replaced the timing belt for good measure while I was in there. Everything went well with the timing belt. Started up and all, but the timing was one tooth off on the exhaust side. I adjusted the exhaust cam by taking the belt off and slightly advancing it to where the marks for the exhaust and intake cams were perfectly in the V. Put the tensioner on and rotated the crank. Still one tooth off on the exhaust side. SO I went through it again by advancing the exhaust crank by a tooth with the hope that it would fall into the V. The intake cam always fell into the V. All along the crank was perfectly lined up. SOOO, on the last try after releasing the tensioner I began to turn the timing belt two revolutions. This is where it gets weird. When I stopped turning on the crank after one complete revolution, it would want to go counterclockwise just a very little bit. Tried it again. Same result. I did not want to go any further because something is just not right. Where did I mess up? What can I do to make this right? And the worst question of all, did I throw the timing off so bad that I have messed something up.
Thanks for your replies. This is beyond me.
Thanks,
George
