Odd motor squeal................ 850

My wife pulled into the driveway last night with the 1997 850 squealing like a stuck pig. I figure it's a bad tensioner on the serpentine belt, or even bad bearing on one of the accessories. However, I just pulled the belt off and check each of them and they were fine. Now, get this, I started the car with the belt removed and it makes the same noise! I am at a loss, and wanted to check here before I start tearing it apart. Any ideas??
