What's the tube through the OEM belly pan for? 850 1997

Hi Bricksters,

I recently bought an aftermarket belly/splash pan. It's solid and looks quite different from the Volvo belly/splash pan pictured on eeuroparts web site.
I cut out a 'window' at the right rear using a sabre saw to make it essentially match the Volvo pan; I figured perhaps there's a certain amount of air flow that Volvo wants to see.
The Volvo pan also has a silver sort of tube coming up through the pan at the center rear area. Take a look at eeuroparts.com if you haven't seen it.

Does anyone know what that tube is for?
