Starting issue and electrical problems 850 1997

I have an intermittent starting problem on a T5. The starter engages and cranks the engine, but then stops before the engine catches. Every time I turn the key to start, the starter will begin cranking, just occasionally it won't keep going long enough. Only thing I can imagine would do that would be the electrical part of the ignition switch. Is there any way to tell for sure? I don't see any other symptoms of that failure that others have described.

Probably unrelated, but I also have an issue with the gauges. The fuel and tachometer both read low. The computer seems to get real information, so I don't think it involves sensors or senders ... maybe a loose ground connection in the dash?

And while I'm at it, the boost gauge doesn't seem to do much either ... is that purely mechanical reading from the vacuum hose, or is there an electrical component to that, as well?

Thanks for any help!
