suspension question S70 1998

I currently own a 1998 S70 T5 I was thinking about putting on some 17" wheels and lowering it. I know lowering (sports) springs should provide improved handling by lowering the center of gravity and reducing body movement with an increased spring rate. I think my car handles somewhat okay as is, I know the handling will be much better with sports springs. I'm a little concern about my car driving really hard (stiff). Has anyone done this? Will my ride still be somewhat smooth?

Thanks,
