V70 shudders and stalls

With the AC on, when I let off the gas of my wife's '99 NA V70 and brake to a stop, the engine shudders and nearly stalls then returns to a normal idle. I think it is AC related. (I also think I need an engine mount.) I have tried different things to isolate the problem. Running down the road at 50 with the AC on, I have slipped into neutral and let off the gas and the revs drop under 500 and dies. If I do the same with no AC, it operates normally. I'm afraid my compressor is failing. I know I have a leak and must continually add r134. I wonder if an oil charge will help the compressor. What do you experts say? What should I check for? TIA
