running very rich fuel mixture V70-XC70 2000

Any advice as to why my 2000 XC started running rough.
It appears that after I replaced the engine thermostat that it started running as if it was flooding.
The XC has 225,000 kms on it.
My dauther drives it so I really didn't see how it ran before, other than she mentioned it ran fine.
However the engine light has been on for sometime now, as she works in a northern town with now Volvo service.
I also washed the car in very cold weather and drove it home to a heated garrage, not sure if that may of caused something to fail.
Any heads up would be appreciated.
