My ’01 S60 2.4T has had the alarm system gone nuts for a year now.
It has only the basic alarm system and no trip computer.

Symptoms:
After locking it, the parking/turn signal lights flash repeatedly starting anywhere from 5 minutes to several hours later. The message says alarm system triggered.

The flashing lights condition is accompanied by a very, very weak sound from the siren. The panic button still works and blows the vehicle horn, or at least I think it is the vehicle horn.

Lately it all starts immediately after locking the car.

The LED seems to work OK.

The parking lights flash once as they should upon locking.
However, today I opened the hood and dropped it the last six inches as suggested by an old post. Now the lights do NOT flash upon locking! They did before I opened the hood.

A few hours later they recovered.

The remotes have always seemed to work OK, no erratic operation.
They both work the same.

The remotes are stored at night on a hook in the kitchen so no motion is going on. I have looked out and seen the lights flashing several hours after the car was locked. I can come out of a grocery store and find the message on the screen, after the light flashing is all done.

I did a search and found several suggestions, including the hood slam and erratic remotes.
None of the other posts seemed useful.

I have disconnected the battery several times for 20 minutes due to a gas cap CE light. So resetting the ECU has not helped. There are no codes stored.

The car has only 50K on it and is out of warranty so don’t want to get involved with a dealer. I would like to just disable the siren (which is weak) at least. But I cannot find it. Where is it?

Better is to disable the alarm system entirely. I find no fuse that says anything about the alarm system. Is there a relay that I can pull to disable the alarm system?

Anyone got any suggestions for what else to try, or where the siren/alarm horn is located?
