S80 Plastic Roof trim paint fading and blistering. Fix? S80 2000

My 2000 S80 roof side trim strips are losing their paint. There are also small blisters in 5 places. I have heard of this before as an 850 problem, but never on a S80. Anyone have a fix? Is it possible to remove these pieces from their clips without breaking them or the clips. I would like to remove and paint them. Mine has two rectangular holes in each side at the load bar attachment points? I think the holes are eliminated by 2002. Replacement part are beacoup $ (over $400 for both sides, top and back pieces, pre-painted by Volvo. Thanks for any help. Larry P.
