01 V70 T5 ABS STC Warning service required along with the lights

About a month ago I got the ABS / STS lights coming on with the warning that Service was required in the message center. Having researched the board, I figured it was most likely the controller, so I pulled it and sent it off the Victor Roacha. Vic was very prompt in working with me, but when he checked the unit out he said it was a good unit, and that it was a 2003 version instead of the 2001 I should of had. I checked all my service records and there is no mention it was ever worked on, and I have made no previous complaints to service. I did have Vic do the upgrade even though he said the unit was functional since it seems that it is not "if the unit will fail" but "when"???

Currently the lights are off at start-up, but illuminate when the car does the self test at 12 MPH. Vic had me check the resistance of the 4 sensors and they were all close to spec although my digital volt meter did waiver around a little (which it has always seemed to). I used the Autozone ODB-II tool, but couldn't pull a code (however later the clerk stated it could only pull "P" codes.

There has been a lot of recent post on the ABS system so I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some advice on what to do next. Am I resigned to going to the dealer to get the codes and get this fixed?

Some other background that may be of issue: I was doing the transmission fluid change out when this happened. I had pumped out 2 quarts and was replenishing at 2 quart intervals as was recommended here. However, I screwed things up (dang I hate to admit this part), when the adaptor I was using to get to the dip stick came out. Instead of adding oil, I was really putting it on the garage floor! A very expensive mistake. Anyhow, things didn't catch up to me until the transmission started to pump some air. I immediately shut down and discoved my mistake. However I could not tell when the adaptor had come out. So I added 3 quarts, and checked. On and on this went adding about 1/2 quart at a time until I had hit about 6 quarts. Which by my count was about 1 more than I had pumped out! A check of the board had one member giving caution to never pump too much since getting air out could be a problem. I figured this was where I was at (trapped air). I then made the next mistake by jacking up the wheels and engaging the transmission to try to get the "air out". I should have shut off the STC but didn't. On going into gear, I could hear the STS working by trying to break but initially I didn't know what the sound was so I shut it off again (no lights at this time) and I checked the oil level which had finally showed up at the very bottom of the stick. I lowered the vehicle and finished my flush. It was during the post flush test ride I noted the lights and messages. At this point everything works correctly save for the ABS / STC, and the transmission also seems fine. As a note I was not having any tranny issue previously, this was just PM.

Any help would be appreciated.
