Proper odometer maintenance? 850

I purchased both gears for sale at odometergears.com to fix my frozen odomteter/tripometer. I installed them last night and everything seemed to be working, but then the tripometer froze at 14.5 miles (and the odometer quit working as well.)

I just went for a drive on my break at work, and poked the button to rezero them and the tripometer started rolling again. It makes a ticking noise and kind of clicks along, instead of rolling smoothly as I was hoping...

Is there anything special I should do to the odometer to lubricate it or keep it moving?

With the whole assembly taken apart, I could EASILY turn the clear gears that control trip and odometer. I don't understand why things would bind up in there, as it seemed like everything fit together well.

The 12 gear piece, I did notice the motor armature fit tightly in that hole, whereas I think it is supposed to be able to spin easily... It wasn't so tight that I thought the motor would bind up, but maybe I'm wrong here.

Have any of you encountered this? Any tips or advice on getting it working perfectly?
