Transmission Shift Light - Transmission Problems! 850 1995

Hello everyone, and thanks for reading this post. I've been having issues with my transmission in the 95 854 for over a year, up until now they've just been annoying but yesterday they began to worry me. First annoying problem was that when I downshifted and the transmission was cold - I would get the orange shift light blinking and the tranny would default to "safe mode" and get stuck in 3rd gear (basically Winter mode). I would have to pull over, turn the motor off and on again to reset the transmission yet the light would blink at me for the rest of the day usually.

After that, it began winding out in 1st gear when it was cold. Warming the car up in the driveway did not help this - as the tranny fluid needs to warm up in order to stop it. I would drive 1 to 2 blocks with the motor winding out before it finally found 2nd gear.

Lately I've been noticing harder shifts, it is slow to grab the right gear coming around a corner sometimes, it clunks occasionally when I press the gas after a period of coasting. And most recently it clunked very hard when I went from D to R, or vice vesa - it also started shimmying when I came to a stop - as if it couldn't find the right gear. Overall it seems like it sometimes just can't find the right gear - I am hoping others have has this problem and can shed some light on it for me - I'm very worried about how much this is going to cost.
