Air pump, not replacing it? C70 1998

I was just informed that my air pump and sas valve have failed and it will cost me over $700 to fix. I understand what they do, so my question is, what if anything will I harm if I don't replace them? I have see all the posts here that talk about it, but non of then address the consequences of not replacing it.
