98 S70 - Cant afford power window switch - How to get the window up? S70 1998

Well I'm not spending $240 at the dealer, and even online (except for eBay) a power window master switch runs about $120.

I just need to get the front passenger window up, or I cant drive this car in to work (bad neighborhood).

I tried this procedure, and burned the crap out of my hand from electric shock ...

Does anyone know the wiring behind the window switches?

Debashis, I have taken my master switch apart and cleaned it. It was not easy, but not bad. I had to to this very early on in car's life when it was still under warranty. I just had this feeling that it come apart and I can do it. Even under warranty I did not like having those guys do stuff to the car as there was a good chance it would come back with different problems. So, I took it apart, cleaned it and haven't had an issue since. Going on 6 years or so now. Let me say that those things are not meant to be taken apart, but they do come apart and back together if careful. Electric contact cleaner and some air was all it took for mine. I did gauge the platic a bit, but I've gotten used to the gauged look and now consider it "charming", especially that I don't have issues any more with that switch.

    Good luck.

Check one of the rear window switches. If it looks the same but won't plug in, it may be like the switches in 740s.

All the connectors are the same but there is a "key" molded into the corner of each connector, each having its "key" in a different corner, hence they cannot plug into the wrong connector.

In the case of my 740, I cut this "key" off and used the rear switch for a front window.

I'm not sure if the connectors are the same, but you can try pulling one of the rear window switches and swapping it with the front passenger switch. I had a problem like that with one of my rear switches, so I just swapped it out with the one from the other door to get the window up

Connectors are not interchangable between front "master" switch and the rear's. I would use a butter knife to pop it out and see if you can clean it with contact cleaner in order to get the window up. Even if it's a temporary fix, it would be worth it for now.

I took mine apart (98 S70) by taking the plastic back off...I think I had to glue it back on. Cleaned the contacts and got the fuzzy dust out of there and it has work fine for the last 2 years.

I don't think we have ever had someone take a V70 drivers switch panel apart. It is all rivets and molded plastic and the 850 advice will not work, as you have already found out. My dealer wouldn't give me one he took out of a car, he knew I would try to take it apart to see if it could be fixed. It probably is just dirty from rain water getting in it.

Call some junk yards... then take yours apart and let us know if you can put it back together.

    Try Erie vovo.... http://www.erievovo.com

The power seat switch on mine is getting particularly funky, they were about 1/3 the discount dealer's price, and they give a lifetime warranty.

Usually I would only buy "new" for electrical items but these dealer prices are downright silly. The rest of my car has 163,000 miles on it, so I'll take my chances.
