I searched, but noone that posted on here seems to have the same symptoms that I have.

The car is my moms 1993 850 GLT with 137,000 miles on it.

I replaced the cam sensor becuase the car was doing this before and the cam sensor had set a code, but this time, it didnt set, I didnt understand what was going on, but the cam sensor did have some issues, so I replaced that with a new genuine Volvo one anywayz.

My problem still exists.

In the morning, the car starts fine, when the car is on the highway, it gets a slight miss (I think its becuase the plugs are way over due, I told her to let me do a tune up (cap/rotor/plugs) at 120K becuase thats when it was due, and she still hasnt, now she does becuase she thinks the plugs are making her car stall. I dont, I think theyre just the cause of the miss.

Well, after she has driven it about 40 miles (She goes down I-77 to work and gets on 40 in Columbia SC) and is on I-40, she said she was slowing down and the car just stalled, stopped, no warning, nothing.

She pulled off, and it started right back up.

Well, at lunch, the car doesnt seem to give her any problems. But, when she leaves at 5 o'clock and the car has been sitting for so long, it usually refuses to start.

I am thinking fuel pump relay, but I cant get down there till the weekend to test the car out. Last weekend, I drove the car all weekend and I couldnt get it to die. No matter what I did, it just would not die. Well, Tuesday rolls around, and the damn thing stops running again.

Now, I noticed there is a TSB for a ground from the ignition module, could this be causing the car to stall? I know its corroded becuase the car came from up north and there is alot of corrosion under the hood.

Also, if the fuel pump relay were to be doing this, wouldnt the car choke or something before it just died. She said there didnt seem to be any loss of power or anything, which is what is throwing me off.

Everything else that I have researched (MAF/Crank sensor/coolant temp sensor) etc etc would leave a MIL, and this car is leaving nothing for me.

I really need you guy's help!

Hi

Things seem to point to the fuel relay, a common issue on 850's. There are two, one for the fuel pump (located behind the fuses) and the other is the fuel system relay, either may have bad connectors (another Volvo issue). The fuel system relay is usually found above the radiator.

Failing this the coil (ignition module) is on its way out. It can cause a weak spark or just cut out. There should be a black wire from the module that is attatched to the body on the front strut tower. Check connections here, it is an earth wire.

Another common cut-out is either the cam sensor or distributor. These are fitted ahead of camshft oil seals. If a seal fails oil can escape onto the CPS or distributor, which again can cause cut outs.

I am sure you will cure it.

Experiencing similar symptoms with my 94 T5.(No check engine light either.)
So far I have found out that it is not the following...
Fuel filter
Plugs, rotor & other spark related issues.
Mass air flow.
What I now suspect is intermittant low voltage to the fuel pump relay, or the pump itself.
When was the last time the battery was replaced in your mom's car?

From what I understand, these fuel pump relays use a pulse width modulated signal. So, low voltage isnt really fesable since its constantly changing (well, on and off that is). What I am thinking is something internally in the relay is going nutty, just like every other relay Volvo has used.

When I go down there this weekend, I am going to drive the wheels off of it till I get it to stall, then im going to go nuts and work as fast as I can to see if I can get it diagnosed before it feels like it wants to start again.

I have a 93 GLT and it was stalling out. It would just cut out, no cough or poor running symptoms.

It turned out to be a faulty ignition switch. Some of the contacts were 'burned' so when I hit a bump it would just cut out. I remember it being frustratind because it seemed so erratic.

But wouldnt it start right back up?

I dont think its the ign switch becuase everything gets power in the II position, and nothing seems to "flicker out" if I screw with it. But, just to make sure, I will screw with it to see if anything happens. But she tries to start it over and over again, I would think she would get something connected in there.
