Recent recall?

I just caught the end of a local news broadcast that mentioned a voluntary recall because of sudden decelleration in some Volvo models. Does anyone know the details yet?

Thanks

Recent recall?

All I heard today was that there have been complaints ('99-'01s) and that it was being investigated, no news of a recall yet.

Correct! But there is promise to what's going on. Check this out:

....yeah but only 136 complaints nationwide concerning now 5-7 yr old cars? If you think about all the other cars on the road, I'd have to think that other brands have had stalling issues too. Volvo has known that those ETMs were NG since at least '00 as that's why it was re-designed completely for '02s. The question is: will Volvo do anything about it with now older cars? Historically, they don't do anything about older models as they'd rather you just buy a new Volvo. Look at the 850 Evaps, ABS modules, etc for other costly examples.
I doubt that 136 or so complaints will be enough to force anything as big as a national or worldwide recall IMHO.

DAVE, it depends on whether or not the ETM's can be tied to a safety issue or not, and whether or not NHTSA can push the issue with it....groups like VEXED are gaining mementum.

Being a guy who repairs Volvos daily, I know all about ETMs and their failure rate however, in my real world experience, it's rare when one causes a total stall out during rush hour traffic or whilst crossing a RR track thus being a true safety issue. Most begin by first setting the CEL and might cause slight driveabilty problems first.
Since the car was first produced, there have always been many reasons why cars have driveabilty issues and stall. Cars with carbs, points/condensors, etc stalled too when something wasn't just right.
Don't get me wrong here, I think that the early ETMs are POSs and no, I wouldn't want to own a car with one nor wish to pay the big $$s required to replace one yet I'd be surprized if anyone will be able to force Volvo into a huge recall for these. Most ETMs fail with higher mileage, older cars that are out of the 4/50 factory warranty.
