Front engine mount bad??? S70

I am trying to determine if my front engine mount is bad.

'98' S70 T5 with 86 K miles.

When I start the car there is a little thunk. Are there other symptoms to look for.

I have seen the pic on volvo speed to determine if the front mount is bad, but I want a second opinion.

Also, if I need to replace - is it best to get oem (from volvo) or is the engine mount at eeuropart.com the same quality/part?????

See attached pic.

Thanks,

Its kind of hard to tell from the picture and it's angle, but looks to me like the rubber block is seperated from the metal base plate and the engine bracket is riding a bit low and touching the base plate brackets. That is, it look exactly like mine did. The procedure to replace it is not that hard and its a 30 minute job as long as all the bolts all come out easy. With the number of miles on yours, its probably worth doing and seeing if it fixes your problem. What does the top mount look like? Probably worth doing that one too while you are at it.

      Thanks for the input.

The upper engine mount I replace last summer with IPD's polyurethane replacement.

What was the symptoms of your bad front mount???

From a drivability standpoint, not much; but it did seem to be transmitting a bit of noise (a wee rattle actually) from that side of the engine bay. At first, I thought it might be something loose in the tensioners or the mounts for the AC, power steering, etc. Once I got in there and looked at the mount, it was fairly obvious. I did think though that by going to the poly mount first that it might have thrown a bit more pressure on the front mount causing it to be a bit noiser than it would have been with a new stock upper mount. Frankly, the only reason I decided to look was becuase I had just replaced the upper mount and thought it would be good to check out the others. By the way, I also did the lower mount while I was`at it. Wasn't that much money and now I don't have to worry about them at all.
