'95 850 a/c blower motor quit working 850 1995

I recently went to drive the car and the a/c blower motor would not work on any speed. It is equipped with electronic climate control and has worked great until know. I checked both fuses and replaced the blower motor with one from a salvage yard. Neither of these things solved the problem. When I start the car, both lights by the RECIRCULATE switch and the A/C switch blick on and off for about 45 seconds then they both stop. Please help... I can't really afford to take this to a dealership and have them diagnose the problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the same problem in my 97 850 wagon with 106 k on it. I assume it is the blower motor but have not had a chance to replace it. The two lights are not blinking though. Could mine be the power converter also and how hard was it to change the blower motor or the power converter also.

Thanks
Dennis

Hi,
In my 95 850 which had a simular problem it was, what Volvo calls, the "Power Unit", which is mounted in the air duct just behind the glove compartment, to the left of the blower motor. It is really a power transistor which converts the signal from the ECC controls on the dash, to a signal that the blower understands as off, full on or an intermediate speed. It was about $100 from a dealer. The Volvo part number is either 9144354 or 9134923 depending upon yours car's chassis number.
Good luck, Brad
