question about sunroof problem

My parent's '96 850 GLT has suddenly developed a problem with the sunroof. The sunroof will go up and down, but it won't go back. Is there anything that I can before I take it to the mechanic? Thanks and have a splendid evening :)

    on each side there is a plastic cover that hides the hinge assemblies, if the platic cover comes undone it will jam so it wont allow the roof to go back. you can just remove the whole cover and see if it opens. there sometimes is broken pieces of the plastic so maybe blow some compressed air to get it all out.

    Does it go click, or do nothing? If no noises, it could be the switch. If the motor sounds like it is running, a cable slipped off track or broke.
