trans fluid S70 2000

Can anyone tell me about how much a transmission flush/change should cost for my 2000 s/70? My mechanic quoted me a price of around 250.00, because my car requires synthetic fluid.

Redline Synthetic is great fluid too. The spill and fill method is bad policy. IPD sells a very simple flush kit that I have used. ($12.50) It consists of a plastic hose and a new clip. Remove the battery. Take off the top hose from the trans cooler at the radiator. Put the IPD hose on the other hose. Start the engine with the emergency brake on. Let a couple of quarts pump out...refill with a couple of quarts...keep this procedure going until the fluid runs clean (into a 5 gallon bucket) It will take about 10 qts to flush it out...it holds about 8 qts. The whole process take about 40 minutes and will cost less than $100. No plugs are removed...just the hose.
You will need a 5 gallon bucket or you will rish an environmental disaster. When done, I put a sheet of plastic over the wate fluid and immediately took it to Jiffy Lube fore disposal.

I just went to amsoil website and their synthetic trans. oil does not say their oil is approved for Volvo Aisin Warner "AW" transmissions. I just don't like taking any chances on a $5,000 tranny. I'm playing it safe with good 'ole expensive ($17.00 a quart, genuine "Volvo Gearbox Oil").

I have a 2000 S70 with the "AW5(5 speed auto transmission). It is correct, you must use synthetic trans. oil- NOT DEXRON III or anything else. I even went by the owner's manual and used "Volvo Gearbox Oil" available only at your Volvo dealer- at around $70. for a 4 liter bottle, you will need two bottles to complete the job. If the dealer does this service for you, it will cost you around the price you mentioned. I don't "flush" my transmission, I do what is called a "drain and refill". With this method you don't stand the chance of stirring things up, you just freshen up the fluid.

go to amsoil web site and look it up.
Says you can use the AMSOIL synthetic ATF, which will cost you about $8 a qt retail, less with your own account.

If you have any questions, give me a call 1-800-891-8886.
