I agree that it would probably be a temporary fix. But, after all, every fix is "temporary". Depends on how long you want to keep the car. I haven't had much luck with canned sealers. Most ac leaks occur at the jucntion where a flexable hose is crimped to a metal tube. There are 3 on the 850. I have 100k miles on my '95 and have had to replace both compressor hoses. If you can absolutely rule out the evaporator I'd recommend replaceing them. It's not too hard a job. If you can wait a week or so just send them both to Century Auto Air in Phoenix and get yours rebuilt for about half the new hose cost. "centuryautoac.com"

    Hello,

When it comes to air conditioning, there are no short cuts and no quick fixes. Your A/C system requires recharging because it leaks. It leaks because you have some form of component failure. Bring the car to a professional and have it inspected and repaired correctly.

Self-sealing kits may slow the inevitable, but I'd still consider them a waste of money. You'll spend 50 bucks on it plus the cost of the true fix in another few months. You're better just to do your true fix and get it overwith.

It depends! I think if the leak is just in some of the seals it can work well. I used a sealant/recharge kit on my 1994 850 (cost $7) in 2003 and it gave me cold air for 2 years. So, I consider that a good fix whereas having components replaced would have run into the hundreds of $$.

        I agree...

They can provide a measure of relief.

A similar self sealing kit used on my 245 didn't work. I still had to replace the compressor. So when it came to my 850, I didn't bother.
