remote entry programming 850

Hello all-

just wondering-- recently bought a 94 850 that didn't come w/ keyless remote, but the window sticker was in owners manual, so the car is equipped w/ it. bought a replacement on ebay (thought i'd try to save a buck) but can't get the thing to work. am following programming instructions precisely, as instructed. can i program this thing or does the dealer need to do something special?

any advice is appreciated--

It's OZbrick to the rescue. Just remember that he drives on the wrong side of the road and some of the locations of pieces parts are on the opposite side of the car.

Hi, Another thought. When you are following the programming instructions, be sure to turn off the ignition just as soon as you have completed the programing. If you wait too long, the programing is lost. If you have more than one remote, you most reprogram then all at the same time, one right after another including ones that working already working before. Three is the max that can be set to one car at one time. Good luck!

thanks for all the help. i have heard that you must follow the programming procedure exactly, and i have, but someone here just recommended that i lock the car from the outside as a last step. i'll try that, i guess. thought i'd try to save some $, but might have lost some already. well, at least i tried...

There are at least two, and maybe more remote models that LOOK the same but use different codes to send signals. You tell the difference by looking at the 7 digit part number on the back (in very small letters). I do not know how you would know which one is correct if you have none to start with. The number on ours is 9148646. It has two small white buttons (some have sightly larger white buttons then other), lock on the upper left and unlock on the upper right. The other one looks the same but the number is 3545653. I have seen other styles where one button is over the other, but they seem not as common and may be for cars with a different lock, like a deadlock for instance. Good luck!

The only way that I could get it to work on my '93 is:

> Turn ignition on & off 5 times (don't start car)
> on the 5th time, leave it on
> press any key on the fob
> ** get out of car and lock it with the key manually **

It should now work. Like I said, it's the only way it would work on my '93.

Hello,

You need to switch the ignition on and off 5 times, and on the 5th time, leave the ignition on while you press one of the key fob buttons. The red light in the middle of the dash should flash, and the fob is now programmed.

Hello,

Have you tried new batteries in your remotes? I would consider it unlikely that the control unit would be dead.
