how to replace the plastic buttons on the rear seatbelts? 850 1997

i have broke off several of the small plastic "buttons" (that limit the movement of the clasp) in the rear seatbelts while installing child car seats.

i just bought some replacements at the dealer (pn #8665065) and thought that the two parts would just snap together after poking the pin throught the seatbelt fabric. no way, not that simple. it looks like that they need to be melted together. does any one have a technique for doing that?

tx,
tb.

What I did was melt it with a soldering iron until the two halves fused together.

I like Bob's suggestion better, but it is a little too late for me.

Either one ought to get the job done though.

First, squeeze the 2 halves together, then using a propane torch and a small flat tipped punch, heat the end of the punch and carefully "mushroom" the pin on the button.
