Coolant types

My newly aquired '98 S70 has an orange-pink colored coolant... I know this is some other kind, or is it just rust? I thought Volvo coolant is green? If I flush and fill with Volvo coolant, is there a danger to mixing these types?

The new volvo coolant is orange, but if you're flushing the coolant system, SAVE big bucks and use the new prestone that's compatible with all coolants.

Yeah I thought it looked like is is supposed to be orange - not gunky or rusty. Well perhaps I don't need a flush then!

Which Prestone is it that you are referring to?

Dexcool approved coolant will do, Tina. John is right about the price. Huge difference over the Volvo stuff.

Be aware that different anti-corrosion additives are used in different brands. They may be more or less suitable to the alloys used in a certain engine. So the coolant used *may* affect the lifetime of head gasket, water pump, heater core and so on... It is also a good idea to use destilled water instead of tap water, it will keep the heater core from clogging
