additives 850

Hello,
I am aware that these additives are not really Volvo recommended but i am just curious if anybody has tried the sea foam injector cleaner and and Auto RX oil additive? Reason i am asking is when i put in the sea foam injector cleaner my gas mpg went up to an additional 2miles(w/c is good) but for some reason at the end of the day my cat converter broke? (w/c is a bomber!!) I am not sure if the additive has got something to do with the cat breaking down or just a coincidence.
Thanks

Can't think of any fuel additive which would cause a catalytic converter to break pieces loose inside--sheer coincidence.

Far as replacement--the IPD one should fit fine and last as long as the OEM.

Auto-Rx in your oil is probably not a bad idea if you have some sludge buildup, or are planning to change to synthetic oil after many miles on non-synthetic.
Have not heard of it causing any problems. Have heard of some seal leaks stopping after use.

Bum luck. I doubt that the Sea Foam caused your cat to die. It might have added carbon particles to the exhaust, but you would have needed one heck of a lot of carbon to plug a cat. Out of curiosity, what made you come to the conclusion that the cat died?
Adding Auto Rx to your oil just before an oil change is a good thing to do.

      Klaus,
Well i was concerned on that rattle when engine gets warm and i wasn't sure of the problem so i brought the car to my indy volvo guy and he checked the mounts first then had the car in the hoist and he showed me where the rattle was caoming from since he had one of his guys shift the tranny while in the hoist and the rattle was indeed coming from the cat.
There's this muffler shop w/c charges me $160 for cat (parts-not oem and installation), it's cheap(univeral fit) but i am hesitant because of the reliability of the parts since state (CA) emissions is strict here. The cat is about $275 (IPD/FCP) and $600 -dealer.
      Should i still get a 2nd opinioin?
thanks again for the additives infos

I would bite the bullet and go the IPD route. Just because it is OEM and the fit would be perfect. It would also be easier to install, no welding on pieces of exhaust to get it to the proper length.

Could it be that the additive increases the octane rating of your gas as a side-effect, thus giving better performance?
